THE ARTIST

Hi, I'm Mekayla DAVIA Mullings

Artist. Dreamer. Caribbean at heart

I’m a Jamaican artist and the creative mind behind DAVIA, a contemporary Caribbean fine art studio.

My work is an exploration of identity, beauty, emotion, nature, and the visual language of the Caribbean. I’m drawn to rich color, expressive figures, tropical elements, and the stories that make our surroundings feel like home.

Through DAVIA, I create original works that invite you to slow down, look closer, and connect with something beyond the canvas.

This is more than art to me. It’s a way of seeing, feeling, and telling stories.

Inspired by the world around me, I create pieces that hold a feeling, tell a story, and leave something behind.

My Story

Rooted in Jamaica. Growing through art.

I’m a Jamaican artist, and DAVIA is a reflection of my journey of discovering where creativity could take me.

My love for art began with simple curiosity and grew into a way of exploring emotion, identity, nature, culture, and the beauty I see around me.

My first official painting was actually an art-class assignment. We were asked to explore different art styles, and somehow, that little assignment earned me a 99%. I still believe it deserved the other 1%, though. 😂

What started as an assignment became the beginning of something much bigger. Today, I’m continuing to explore, experiment, and create art that tells stories and invites people to feel something of their own.

DAVIA is a continuation of that journey.

WHAT INSPIRES ME

IN THE STUDIO

Where ideas take shape.

For me, painting is rarely about following a perfect plan. I usually begin with an idea, a feeling, or something that catches my attention, and then I let the painting evolve from there.

I love experimenting with color, texture, movement, and different materials. Sometimes the finished piece looks exactly how I imagined it; other times, it takes me somewhere completely unexpected and those are often my favorite paintings.

The studio is where I get to experiment, make mistakes, change my mind, and let the art become what it wants to be.
